Information and News on the Amon Hotel and Luxor, Egypt

The Amon Hotel is deceptive - it is hidden amongst some of Egypt's lush vegetation and is only a few metres from the streets of Luxor's West Bank villages and yet, once inside, the Amon Hotel is spacious and quiet - far from the madding crowd! :)

The central courtyard and wonderful tropical gardens are a testament to the care taken with every detail at the hotel. The exotic trees, shrubs and plants offer a wonderful area in which to have an afternoon break or to take breakfast in the exquisite gardens.

The Flowering Blue Lotus is now, sadly, almost extinct in Egypt but a German hard-working horticulturist and landscape designer has managed to produce a delightful garden and imported seedlings from which the blue lotus has re-emerged :)
Most tourists and archaeologists prefer to take their meals outside - though, of course, there are breakfast rooms and a large restaurant area.

The gardens have an almost surreal feeling - it is hard to believe that such beautiful gardens are offered in modern-day Egypt and these gardens are unlike any others to be found in the Luxor area.
The ancient Egyptians would have been pleasantly surprised to see a garden of such magnificence in the Nile Valley - under a mile from the Theban mountains and necropolis.

The hotel is ideal for people who are familiar with Luxor and also for those who aren't au fait with the way of life in Egypt. The village is close enough to walk to in under five minutes and the monuments of Luxor's West Bank are only a few minutes away too. The famous Mortuary Temple of Ramses III, Medinet Habu, is close to hand as is Deir el Medina and the Colossi of Memnon and the Ramesseum. The Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Nobles and the Valley of the Queens are all close to hand too. A bicycle can be hired from the hotel as can motorbikes and even donkeys! The taxi services are almost always available and the staff are happy to organise any form of transport at any time of the day or night. Limousines are readily available for the affluent and shoe-repairs are within a short distance for the not so well heeled ;)

Balloon trips over the Theban mountains; all of the ancients sights and the River Nile set-off from the West Bank (often just before dawn) and these locations are very easy to reach from the Amon Hotel. The hotel staff are happy to provide breakfast boxes for tourists and travellers who would like to take advantage of Luxor's sights in the earlier hours of the day.

The local ferry runs during almost all hours of the day and night but 'power boats' (carrying around twelve people) are available at any time of the day or night and provide a cost-effective method of getting to the East Bank (ancient Waset or Thebes) to see the likes of the Temple of Luxor; Temple of Karnak and the Avenue of Rams. The English-speaking staff are always available to help arrange almost any tour or transport requirements.

Ideally situated, we are sure that you will appreciate the location, service and overall feel of the hotel and its amenities.

We look forward to providing you with a comprehensively updated web site soon (in both German and English) and some stunning pictures of the local area.

Kind regards,
The Amon Hotel Luxor Team.
